Community Property - Property owned in common by husband and wife as a result of having been acquired by means other than gift or inheritance, each spouse holding a one-half interest in the property. The nine community property states are as follows:
Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
Domestic Relations Order - Any judgment, decree, or order (including approval of a property settlement agreement) that relates to the provision of child support, alimony payments, or marital property rights to a spouse, former spouse, child, or other dependent of a person and is made pursuant to a state domestic relations law.
Dual Citizenship - A person's status as a citizen of two countries.
Immigration - The act of entering a country with the intention of settling there permanently.
Prenuptial Agreement - A voluntary agreement entered into before marriage designed to resolve issues of support and property division should the marriage end in divorce or the death of a spouse.
Quaified Domestic Relations Order - A domestic relations order issued by a state court that creates or recognizes the right of an alternate payee to receive all or a portion of pension benefits.
